US HOS Trip ETA Calculator

Estimate truck transit time and arrival using a simplified U.S. property-carrying Hours of Service planning model. Enter required driving time, expected on-duty non-driving time and an optional starting date and time. This is a planning calculator rather than an ELD or legal determination of available driving hours.

How to use the US HOS Trip ETA Calculator

  1. Enter the total estimated driving hours for the route.
  2. Enter expected on-duty non-driving time per driving shift.
  3. Optionally enter the trip starting date and time.
  4. The model limits driving to the basic 11-hour rule inside the 14-hour driving window.
  5. It includes an estimated 30-minute interruption when the modeled shift contains more than eight cumulative driving hours.
  6. When additional driving remains, the model adds a 10-hour off-duty reset before another driving shift.
  7. Exceptions, split sleeper rules and weekly cycle limits require separate compliance review.

Examples

Long trip

A route requiring more driving than can fit into one legal driving shift will include one or more modeled 10-hour off-duty periods.

ETA calculation

When a departure date and time are entered, estimated elapsed hours are added to the departure to produce a planning ETA.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours can a U.S. property-carrying driver drive?

The basic federal rule generally permits up to 11 hours of driving after the required qualifying off-duty period, subject to other limitations.

What is the 14-hour window?

The basic rule generally prohibits driving after the end of the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty, subject to applicable provisions and exceptions.

Does the calculator include a 30-minute break?

The simplified model adds a 30-minute interruption when a modeled shift includes more than eight cumulative driving hours.

Does this replace an ELD?

No. It is only a planning estimator.

Does it model the 60/70-hour rule?

No. Weekly cycle limits and several special provisions are outside this simplified estimator.

Can I use the ETA as proof a load is legally possible?

No. Actual legal availability depends on the driver's current logs, duty history and applicable exceptions.
